New Program

As a new offering of the monastery, we are designing a three month Sabbatical Renewal Program to be offered in the fall (September 2-December 3, 2010). This semi-structured program will be made up of a number of integrative elements that provide a ground within which the Spirit hopefully can direct each one. The program allows persons to follow their own process, encouraging involvement but recognizing the need to withdraw at times. Courses such as Contemplative Living in an Evolving Cosmos, Praying Scripture, Life Transitions, and Cosmology blend with periods of contemplative prayer, art journaling, dream work and body work to provide both a challenge and a balance to the person’s life. Spiritual direction and daily monastic liturgy are also fundamental elements of the experience. Several group trips provide an awareness and attentiveness to our environment, our diverse cultures and our obligations regarding these gifts of God. This ecumenical program is open to women and men, lay, religious, and clergy.

Our belief in offering this type of program is based on our monastic mission “to undertake apostolic works in accordance with our traditions … by holding spiritual retreats and courses of renewal, valuing the ministries of reconciliation and spiritual direction to those who come to our monasteries seeking peace and divine grace.” We also are aware that a primary way to grow in attentiveness to God’s working in and among us is to take time apart from our ordinary life and busy schedules. The aim of the Renewal Program is to integrate workshops; seminars; prayer and recreation into a holistic experience which will help one see God in all of life, in all our relationships as well as in oneself.

The staff is composed of men and women, religious and lay, who are committed to live a more holistic Christian life. Each staff person brings a rich prayer life, a deep knowledge of the subject presented, a sense of journey, and a desire to share both knowledge and experience with others. Most of the presenters are from the local area and some are Benedictine Oblates who hold expertise in certain areas. The presenters are involved in the planning as well as the execution of the sabbatical. Cost for the 3 month program is $8,500, which covers room and board, laundry facilities, tuition, spiritual direction and retreat fees, and group outings. Expenses may range from $500-$1,000 for personal costs not covered by the program expense. Application form may be downloaded below. Two letters of recommendation are necessary to begin this program. A religious should send one of the two from her/his major superior, a priest from his bishop. All letters of recommendation are considered confidential.
