New Mexican Retablo Workshop

July 30 - August 5, 2017

This is a workshop focusing on the history and culture of the religious art of Northern New Mexico. Students will paint holy images using the medium of egg tempera. Each student will complete two retablos during this workshop. There will be a day trip to the Santuario de Chimayo and the Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz to view traditional Northern New Mexican religious art.

This workshop will be taught by Marcia Miller.Working alongside Marcia, will be Santa Fe's long time instructor, Jaqueline Nelson.
"Jackie" has a B.A. in art from Smith College and studied at Tyler School of Fine Arts at Temple University.In 1985, she attended the Meudon School of Iconography under Fr. Egon Sendler and has studied with Vladislav Andreyev.

Marcia Miller, after retiring from the Department of Health for the State of New Mexico, has devoted herself to the study of liturgical arts. She has studied retablos with Jacqueline Nelson and has team taught the retablo workshop for the past several years.

The fee for the workshop which includes classes, a private room and bath, all meals, and, refreshments, is $695.

$100.00 deposit

The charge for commuters is $400. This covers the charge for all classes and includes the mid-day meals from Monday through Saturday.

In addition all students will be charged $60 to cover the cost of materials.
